I’m Anne Clarke, owner of ABClarke Coaching and the person behind setting-and-achieving-goals.com.
I am first and foremost a life coach or personal coach. Meaning that I frequently coach clients who want to improve their life.
Just as often I serve as a career coach, business coach or executive coach. In those roles I work with clients who want to improve their life by improving their work experience in some way.
Let me introduce myself and my coaching philosophy and share a bit about my background.
I opened a coaching practice after working as an attorney in California’s Silicon Valley for many years. (I always hasten to add at this point that I have a nice personality even though I am a lawyer—really, some of us do!)
I am a native New Yorker and came to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s after graduating from New York University School of Law. That was some time ago and not just because we didn’t each have a personal computer of our very own. When I told my NYU classmates that I was going to Palo Alto they had truly never heard of it! Can you imagine someone saying that now?
It was incredibly exciting to be present as the Silicon Valley emerged and came into its own. All of my subsequent work has been impacted by the dynamics of that intense period.
As an attorney in the litigation department of a large local law firm I represented individuals, small businesses, start-ups, Fortune 500 companies and national trade associations.
My experience as a woman breaking into a traditionally male profession still informs my coaching.
A significant portion of my business experience also stems from that work. As you might imagine, helping business people out of a lawsuit induced nightmare is an excellent primer on key business skills.
Over time, pursuing a better work/family balance I left litigation to focus on raising my young children. An active community volunteer I founded the Mid-Peninsula Chapter of FEMALE, a national organization for women taking time out from paid employment to raise their children. I later joined FEMALE’s Board of Directors and served as its National Co-Director in 1995. (FEMALE, now known as MOTHERS & MORE is still going strong.) I learned a great deal from these experiences about, among other things, working mothers, two-career families, parenting and relationships.
A few years ago I chose to make one more change to share my life long passions for getting results with a broader community. Coaching felt like a natural evolution from lawyering. I’m still focused on supporting others in working out difficult situations, solving problems, and trying new approaches.
Instead of offering my clients advice for dealing with issues through the legal process I work as a partner with them in addressing challenges through the coaching process.
Coaching has enabled me to support clients around the country in making big changes that have had huge positive impacts on their lives at work and at home.
Today I continue to study communications, networking, women and work, marketing, small business success, setting and achieving goals, career advancement, self-development and more.
With my ever-growing children now in high school and college, I divide my time between the Bay Area in California and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
My non-work passions are all things New York City, travel, theatre, reading, cooking and all things food. Should we meet in person you will find there is absolutely nothing for which I can’t find a food analogy.
I do hope we’ll have the opportunity to meet or speak in person and that in the meantime this brief bio has answered your questions about my background. If you still have unanswered questions, or want more information, your
